Stein Club members helped to build a house

On Sunday, November 3rd, Bavarian Grill Stein Club Members volunteered to assist in the Habitat for the Humanities Blitz Home building project. They were a part of many community volunteers, who built three houses within two weeks.

There was a "Mission Accomplished" Party in the Bavarian Grill Bier Garten to celebrate with a keg of great Paulaner Pils. To volunteer to participate in a future project, please talk to Eddie Rose or Barbara and Mike at the Bavarian Grill Bar.

Thank you to all who volunteered their time and talent - it was good fun!

#2000 and Counting
Whoever thought that our small group would reach 2000 beers.

The Bavarian Grill became the host site for a series of informal beer and specialty beverage tasting sessions in 1996. A panel of judges gathers to taste and rate beers from all over the world. This was a way to be introduced to different types, origins, and the brewers who make them. This fraternity has sampled beer from the continents of Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America.

One day an astute member of this fraternity, Fred Davis, suggested that a record be kept of the beers sampled. Organized rating began in the spring of 1999. This was the start of our trip to number 2000.

Our first goal was to reach 500. As the day drew near, a dilemma was on our hands, what to select for this special occasion. The beer had to be a product that would not disappoint us and spoil the festivity. Mark Diehl made a suggestion. That savoir was Salvator Millennium 2000, a special brew from Paulaner.

The celebration occurred May 13, 2000. Two magnums of Salvator Millennium 2000 were properly chilled. The cork was popped, the deep ruby liquid flowed into each glass, and rose to a perfect head. Everyone eagerly waited to taste this rich ruby brew with its deep warming flavor. The glasses were passed out, a toast was made, and the moment of truth arrived. It was worth the wait. Salvator Millennium 2000 was the perfect choice for our 500th product sampled.

On to number 1000. The group thought that reaching number 1000 would be a feat. That milestone was reached 24 March 2001. Again, what to drink. Lo and behold, the beer Gods look down upon us and introduced a new beer to the area, Schneider Edel-Weisse, another great choice. To commemorate the occasion, shirts made with a logo depicting 1000 beers.

Number 1500 was right around the corner. With the tasting occurring on 15 December 2001, what better beer than Corsendonk Christmas Ale brewed by Van Steenberge. In honor of this occasion, we commissioned a ½ liter stein with new logo depicting the Texas state flag and Bavarian flag .

Now we are at 2000. Again, what beer is to be had for #2000? Johann Zwo selected the beer and Ben and Barbara worked the logistics for getting the beer to the States. The beer selected was a nine liter bottle of St. Feuillien Abbey Blonde Ale brewed by Friart of Le Roeulx, Belgium. To get this beer, it had to be ordered from Belgium. A special shipping crate was made for the 9 liter bottle. Would it survive the trip? Yes, it did. Plans were put into place to celebrate #20000. The magic day arrived, August 24, 2002. This time we celebrated in style. The party was held at the Bavarian Grill Brau Stuber room. Food and drinks were provided. T-shirts and special glasses were made to commemorate the occasion. The moment of truth arrived. The cork was popped, the beautiful blonde liquid flowed into each glass, and rose to a perfect head. A toast was made and everyone took their first sip. Another winner! A great choice for #2000.

The march now continues. On to #2500! Prosit!
