Try the newly arrived Spaten Premium Bock

The Spaten Bock kegs just arrived in Plano, Texas from the Spaten Brewery in Munich, Bavaria yesterday. The Spaten Bock is on tap for the first time in over 10 years in North Texas at the Bavarian Grill
and will also be the featured Bier for the

Stein Club meeting this Wednesday, February 8th at 7pm.

Our guests have enjoyed this great Bavarian Bier in the first few years and were very sad when it was no longer available.

We are very exited about this great Premium Bockbier returning and we are committed to sell at least 30 kegs - so all our guests are invited to come on over and rediscover an old favorite. You can look forward to enjoy this smooth, rich and flavorful light colored brew with about 6.5% alcohol with any of our Winterfest specials.

There were always rumors that in the earlier years of last century an even stronger Aventinus existed. Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster at the Schneider Brewery, investigated and found that in the cold winters the precious drink partially froze and due to the separation of water from the liquid, a concentrated version was created. Hans Peter Drexler managed to re-create this mystery in a controlled environment and the Aventinus Eisbock was born. Aventinus Eisbock is almost black in color, full body with malty notes in the nose and chocolate, caramel, fruit and spices on the palate.
A full and rich body make it pure indulgence to the extreme. It measures
12.0% Alcohol by Volume  and is served in a 12 oz bottle.

The Pinkus Müller Hefe Weizen from Münster is organic through and through.
No chemicals or pesticides are used anywhere throughout the brewing process or in the farming of the constituent materials, like the grains and the hops.
This top quality wheat beer is naturally cloudy and has a fruity, lemony flavor. Made from 60% wheat and 40% barley malts. Before bottling unfermented beer wort is added so that the beer is still fermenting in the bottle. This bottle conditioning gives the beer its dense foaming head as well as its refreshing character and cloudy appearance. It measures about 5.1 % Alcohol and is very enjoyable with our Oktoberfest Hendl, the oven roasted chicken.

Your Hint:
We are in an enchanting city at the foot of the North Tyrol Alps, which Goethe because of its elaborately painted houses and picturesque scenery very aptly named a "living picture book". Do you know the so called “Lueftlmalerei”? It is an artistic decoration of facades with paintings in fresco technique, painted on the damp plaster. In this way the paintings keep in good shape over many years. They are amazing elaborate and mainly show religious motifs. It's a real pleasure to walk through the streets and to rest in a Bier Garten.

The location of the photo is Oberammergau.  We toured Germany in 1990 with our church choir and sang in various churches and locations throughout Germany.  We attended the Passion Play in July of that year and that same evening sang in a beautiful cathedral in the town of Oberammergau.  It was incredible to have the mountains as a backdrop for the fabulous production and to be able to sing in such an historic location.

Brenda commented: The picture is taken in the beautiful little town of Oberammergau.  We visited the town when while stationed in Germany during the late 80’s during a stay in Berchtesgaden and I had a dear friend attend the Passion Play in 1990.

Bavarian Bier Lovers Corner: Bock — The Evolution of a Beer Style

Bavarian monasteries played a special role in the further evolution of the Bockbier. Being well-educated people, the monks took a scientific approach to brewing. They experimented with new techniques and ingredients and created systematic records of the results. In the process, they became the first professional brewers of the Western world.

In the monasteries, food was intended to be simple, and consumed merely to sustain life. The monks, therefore, regarded beer primarily as a source of nourishment instead of an indulgence. They had discovered that beer — if made strong enough and brewed from the best grains — was not only thirst quenching but a veritable "liquid bread." This was important to the monks, especially during the Lenten season, when no solid food was supposed to pass their lips. During Lent, they brewed their beers as strong and substantial as possible. Their argument was based on the ecclesiastic doctrine that "liquida non frangunt ieunium" (liquids do not break the fast), made up by the church fathers in Rome. The Holy See, however, knew very little about Bavarian beer.

According to legend, the production of monastery beer in those days required a special permit from the “boss” in Rome, who, of course, needed to sample the beverage before he could make a decision. The Bavarian monks, therefore, filled a cask of their brew and sent it by slow, rumbling transport to the Vatican. Now, there is no surer way to ruin the taste of even the best-made brew if it is alternately frozen in the chilly Alpine passes and then cooked along the dusty roads of sunny Italy. By the time the Pope got to sample the Bavarian brew, it reputedly tasted sour and awful. So it is no surprise that the folks at church headquarters found no objections to the Bavarian friars making as much beer as they pleased. In fact, beer was deemed beneficial for the monks’ souls — the more the better. Anyone who drinks this stuff voluntarily, as far as the Holy See was concerned, clearly deserved to go to heaven.

The first commercial super-strong Bock, a Doppelbock, was brewed in 1780 by monks, the Paulaners of Munich. They named their beer Salvator, which is Latin for Savior. The Paulaner Brewery has since been secularized, but its Doppelbock is still available today. Other breweries have since followed the Paulaner example and have used the suffix “ator” in the naming of their Doppelbocks, such as Maximator, Triumphator or Celebrator.
