Your hint:
You will find the most impressive iron-cast statue of Bavaria's patron saint on the border of the Theresienwiese where the annual world-famous Oktoberfest take place each year in September. As a matter of fact, the statue represents a Germanic amazon, an allegoric impersonation of Bavaria's (the country's) power and strength.

At least at close viewpoint she controls the nearby surroundings by its conspicuous location and size. The sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler designed this monumental statue and was built from 1844 till 1850 at the renowned foundry of J.B. Stiglmair, the result being a brilliant achievement in iron casting. Feel free to explore the inside of the monument, if you do not shy away from climbing 66 steps that lead from the hollow of the knee up to the top, i.e. the Bavaria's crown! You will appreciate both the wonderful scenic view over Munich at the top and the evidence of superior iron casting craftmanship during the ascent.
Another Hint: Think State Fair of Texas, but not as "big" - and if you click on the picture, you will see a larger statue.

8. Oktoberfest - Facts and Figures

62,000 pork knuckles. 6.6 million liters of beer.
It must be Oktoberfest.

The Olympic Stadium in Munich, Germany – Always a Hot Spot!

The Olympic Stadium is an International event centre, sports and recreational park and tourist attraction with world fame located in Munich, Germany.  The Olympiastadion was the main venue for the August 26, 1972 Summer Olympics.  In brilliant sunshine with a capacity of 80,000, people watched 121 teams march through the marathon gate into the Olympic Stadium. The stadium also hosted events including football’s 1974 World Cup Final which resulted in a 2-1 victory for Germany against Holland and the 1988 European Championship Final.  In addition to being a sports venue, the Olympic Stadium plays host to many open-air concerts by the likes of AC/DC, Jon Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones.

Designed by the German architect Gunther Behnisch and the engineer Frei Otto, the Olympiastadion was considered revolutionary for its time: large sweeping canopies of plexiglass stabilized by steel cables were used for the first time in a large scale.  The idea was to imitate the Alps and to set a counterpart to the Berlin Summer Olympics of 1936, which were held under the Nazi-Regime.  The sweeping and transparent canopy was to symbolize the new, democratic and optimistic Germany.  This is reflected in the official motto: “The happy games” (“die heiteren Spiele”).

This exceptional stadium has much to show in its history. It continues to shine as a brilliant example of excellent architecture combined with functionality and has become one of the most important centers of its kind.
