April 23rd, 2009 starting at 5 pm
We are going to celebrate the birthday of
the Reinheitsgebot, the famous German Bier

April 1516, concerning standards for the
sale and composition of beer.
Here is the fun part: The tasting challenge:
Each contestant enjoys five "Deutsches
Bier" samples to detect the style and it's
origins. If you are correct you'll move to
the next round where the tasting gets a
little more challenging.
We'll continue the rounds until we have a
Winner for our

Where in Munich
are we? - The Quiz

In the last issue we asked: Please give
us some more detail about this famous
square in Munich - many of our readers
rose to this challenge, Thank you very
much for all of you who provided the
correct answer, please try again!
And the winner wrote: We are in Munich (Munchen)
again this month. This time we are on
the Max Joseph Platz. In the center of
the panorama is the Bavarian State Opera
(also called Nationaltheater or
Residenztheater) . The statue is a
monument to Maximilian I Joseph. Just
to the left of the opera is the Residenz
which is the former royal palace of the
Bavarian monarchs and today it is a
museum of room decorations. The
building on the far right is the former
main post office which houses the Opera
Cafe.
We have been to Munich on several
occasions but only on our last trip did
we visit this locale. We walked from
Marienplatz and it was cool and blustery
but the walk was invigorating and the
destination (Max Joseph Platz) was worth
the trip. A most picturesque spot in
the heart of Munich. We can't wait to
return to Bavaria!
Congratulations go to:
Don
Bracchi
He scored the most points for naming
most of the buildings in the picture to
win the
Gift Certificate
to the Bavarian Grill
for $25

Our friend Dennis Wehrmann with the Frankonia
Brewery describes his latest relase: " Hallo
Juergen,
hier eine kurze beschreibung vom Koelsch.
Koelsch Bier is very popular in Koeln Germany and it
is Brewed as an ale with a special yeast.
It is a light colored beer with some fruity notes
like citrus. It finishes out dry with some slight
hop notes. This Beer is very refreshing and perfect
for spring.
Also to come soon is our Mai Bock. watch out for it.
cheers, Dennis

Oktoberfest 2010 |
One of our regular guests answered to the previous
quiz: You are in Munchen! This shot is taken from
the Peterskirche tower - nice view of Frauenkirche
and the Glockenspiel. I have taken the exact same
photo....see attached J I took a study abroad class
during my graduate work in 2004 and got to spend 7
days in Munich. We stayed at the hotel Torbrau right
on the edge of the Marienplatz very close to the
church. The hotel was right next to the Isator tower
and had a huge anniversary celebration going on the
day we arrived. It was my first time in Germany and
the people were very welcoming and introduced our
group to Munich. While there we got to tour the
Pauliner brewery as part of a marketing project.
Munich is a wonderful city; we have been back
several times. We are actually planning on attending
the 2010 Oktoberfest for my birthday next
year...can't wait.
Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit!
