April 12 Stein Club Meeting Features Schneider Biers WHO: Bayern Stein Club members WHAT: Bi-monthly meeting WHEN: 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 12 WHERE: Indoor Biergarten, Bavarian Grill in Plano We’ll sample some of the world-class Weizen (wheat) Biers from G. Schneider and Sohn Braurei located in the Bavarian village of Kelheim, Germany. A family-owned brewery, Schneider has been serving customers since 1850 when the Bavarian Royal Family granted the company a license to brew Weizen Bier. Weizen Biers are brewed with both malted barley and malted wheat instead of just barley. They are usually lighter in flavor and paler in color and are particularly popular in the summer. Schneider Biers available at the Bavarian Grill include the traditional Weiss, Aventinus Doppelbock and Schneider Eisbock. Also on the meeting agenda is a virtual tour of the Schneider brewery and the picturesque scenery in and around Keilheim, which is situated at the confluence of the Danube River and the Main-Danube Canal. From here travelers can board a variety of river cruises that wind their way through some of the most beautiful scenery in southern Germany, Austria and other European countries. |

Supporting Our Men & Women Serving in Iraq Bayern Stein Club members as well as all other guests of the Bavarian Grill have a unique opportunity to let our servicemen and women serving in Iraq know how much we appreciate their efforts and sacrifices. A collection box has been placed in the Bavarian Grill entry area where items can be donated for shipment to Iraq. Particularly welcome are batteries (AA and AAA), paperback books (mysteries, sci-fi, etc.), DVD copies of TV programs such as The Simpsons, Futurama and South Park, chocolate treats such as pudding and cookies, playing cards and magazines. As former Stein Club President Bo Fedolak, pointed out, “This is a way we can make life easier for these dedicated men and women.” The idea for the project came from Stein Club member Christine Ayers, whose brother-in-law is serving in Iraq. Christine and her sister Jeniffer regularly send packages to him and his platoon. Christine will pick up the items, box them and mail the packages. |

Stein Club Events Getting New Boost In an effort to boost attendance at various Stein Club events, Bavarian Grill guests are seeing new messages on table tents in both the Biergarten and the dining room. The first message was a reminder to Stein Club members to attend the April 12 bi-monthly meeting of the organization. Other messages promoting Stein Club activities will be featured in the weeks ahead. The effort is headed by Elke Nutterfield, executive vice president. |
