Winter’s Still Here, But Soccer Fever Is Heating Up

             Whether it’s called foosball, football or soccer, interest among Bayern Stein Club members in the world’s favorite sport is heating up at the Bavarian Grill.

            Club members and their guests attending the Team USA match with Guatemala Feb. 19 could have used a little heat. The hardy fans braved one of winter’s rare appearances this season to attend the game in Frisco and watch the Americans win, 4-0.

            Between now and June 9, when World Cup play starts in Germany, the sixth-ranked American team can be seen on TV in friendlies (pre-season or exhibition games for you American football fans) with Germany on Wednesday, March 22, and with Jamaica on Tuesday, April 11. The March 22^nd game will be shown live on ESPN2 at 2 p.m., Central Standard Time. The match with Jamaica will be at 7 p.m. You can watch both at the Bavarian Grill.

            Several matches of interest to Stein Club members are scheduled for the first round of the tournament. Germany vs. Costa Rica will be the opening match of the tournament in München at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, the USA vs. Italy match can be seen at the Bavarian Grill. Bitburger T-shirts will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. That’s the only official party planned thus far, but it’s a cinch that other World Cup games can be seen Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Bavarian Grill before the event ends July 9.

            If you also like basketball, the Bavarian Grill is good place to watch both NCAA tournament in March leading to a national championship and the Dallas Mavericks in their pursuit of a NBA first-place trophy.

Dinner Featuring an Old Favorite Set for March 8

             In Bavaria it’s called Waginger Kren- oder Meerrettich Fleisch. Those who have enjoyed this old favorite before know it as boiled beef that’s served with a velvety horseradish sauce, boiled potatoes and the traditional medley of vegetables.

            Add two, half-liters of Märzen Bier, courtesy of the Bavarian Grill and Ayinger brewery, and Bayern Stein Club members and other guests are in for a real dining treat at 7 p.m. March 8.

            The price is $29.75. Stein Club members pay $24.75.

April Stein Club Attendees to Sample Schneider Weizen Biers

            Situated in the colorful Bavarian village of Kelheim is the G. Schneider & Sohn Brauerei, one of Germany’s most famous brewers of some of Europe’s finest Weizen Biers. This family-owned brewery has been in business since 1850 when the Bavarian Royal Family granted a license to brew Weizen Biers.

            Bayern Stein Club members and guests will have an opportunity to sample some of these world-class Biers at the club’s bi-monthly meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. In addition, we’ll be able to watch a virtual tour of this famous institution and the beautiful country around the village on the Danube River.

Bayern Stein Club Welcomes New Members

            Twenty-one Bavarian Grill guests finished their first Bier cards recently to become official members of the Bayern Stein Club.

            The new members include: Mike Marks, Tyler Parson, Keith Nicholson, John Witt, David Dalton, Ken Granger, Chris Lopikolo, Michelle Watsen, Laura Rothberg, Jason Endebrock, Ben Hildebrand, Natalie London, Ira Gasser, James LeFaive, Christian Munsch and Marion Allen.             Members who completed their second card included Connors Skip, Beth Keyser, Ron Shaw, Matt McQueeney and Ken Jones. They will receive a personalized stein with stars by the names.

Our February Stein Club Meeting featured the newly arrived Spaten Bock

All Stein Club members enjoyed this great Bavarian Bier, a great Premium Bockbier, that just returned to Plano.  We enjoyed this smooth, rich and flavorful light colored brew with about 6.5% alcohol with our friends of the Bavarian Grill Stein Club.

Our Spaten Ambassador brought some gifts that Andrea helped to raffle off.

During the meeting we the members shared their ideas about desired Stein Club activities and favorite dinners in 2006. The Spaten Bock Introduction was another great Bavarian Grill Stein Club Event - thank you to all who made this a wonderful evening!
